11 DIY Valentine's Day Decor Ideas I Actually Like

I’m a sucker for cute holiday decor, but I have rules. The decor can’t be too kitschy and if it’s not done well then I won’t keep it around. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but, I love it when holiday decor looks natural in the home. For example, my home decor aesthetic is a rustic modern, chic look, so I wouldn’t bring in decor items that don't really complement that particular look. I think holiday decor looks out of place when it collides with a very different style.

So I pulled together 11 of my favorite DIY projects for Valentine's Day home decor that I would actually make attempt to make and proudly display in my home.

1. Heart Florals

I'm a sucker for hearts, so I L O V E this. It's an easy DIY project that feels artsy, bohemian and glam all at once. I love the slight ombre effect on the lavender heart.

2. DIY String Heart

I've seen this floating around the interwebs for some time now. I think it's the most adorable thing and so creative. It reminds me of a craft I did once at Girl Scout Camp but on a more chic, grown up scale.

3. Free Printables

I’m obsessed with the “All You Need Is Love” printable because this was the name of our procession song from our wedding and it holds a special place in our heart. I would frame this in a white frame with white matting and hang in an entryway space or on a bathroom wall.

4. Lego Hearts

My husband is obsessed with Lego’s and is counting down the days until we have kids so he can have an excuse to play with them again. This might be the best DIY Valentine's day gift for him and can double as a decor item. I can imagine these LEGO hearts on our downstairs living room mantel!

5. Giant Geometric Heart Wall

I love this because it’s modern, not too kitschy and GIANT! I love a bold, big decor piece. I would love to put this at the end of the hallway, that way when you turn down the corner your eyes feast on a giant heart. That would make my day!

6. Heart of Gold Garland

I love gold, so this pick is easy for me. I also love decorating my mantel and a garland of gold hearts is perfection in my book.

7. Valentine’s Day DIY Tree

This is a great example of a modern Valentine’s day craft that is done to perfection. Of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from Brittany Watson Jepsen, she’s genius! **Blogger crush for realzsies.**

8. Heart Twig Door Hanger
This certainly speaks to the rustic decor lover in me. I would probably do this in a solid color or maybe do every other color, or even an ombre effect...the ideas are endless. Also, sticks and small branches are easy enough to find for FREE!

9. XOXO Yarn Letters

I like these XOXO yarn letters because you can make them in any color. Perfect for those who would rather choose other colors than pink or red. And it’s perfect for the minimalist decorator.

10. Floating Heart Wall Art

This is a fun take on creating a whole wall backdrop of floating hearts. This DIY Valentines Day decor project is a fave because again you can choose your own colors, but also because it’s small enough and self contained which allows you to move it anywhere you want in your house. Maybe you first place it on your entryway shelf and then realize it would look much better in your kitchen. Whatever the case, you can switch it up and it’s not a major project to do so. WIN!

11. Valentine’s Day Chandelier

Saving the best for last. This DIY chandelier is incredible. I don’t have the courage yet to tackle this DIY project for Valentine’s Day, but it’s on my list of things I must try and accomplish. I love this because it’s such a statement piece.

I have my eye on a couple of these DIY projects myself. Let me know if you decide to try one out and I might feature it on my instagram!

  10. Ooh, these are all cute ideas. I really like the geometric heart - something about it reminds me of those foldable paper hearts some people make in school (for notes!)
